Everyone says I've been here, like, 10 years or something.
So, this is my very first post on Blogspot. Shanna's going to be so proud! And as many of you know, lots of new things are entering my life this fall, as I'm now a member of the junior class at the South Carolina Governor's School for Science and Mathematics. GSSM, as it's affectionately known, is located in lovely Hartsville (also fondly known as Hartsvegas). Move-in day was yesterday and things have been going non-stop since then! The orientation process is proving to be very tedious, but oddly helpful. Everyone keeps asking me what I think about school, as in, whether I'm liking it or not, and I have yet to answer that question. I blame it all on the hectic schedule of orientation, though I'm pretty sure it's not that. So yeah, basically, I'm ignoring the situation until I'm just so used to being here that I have no choice but to stay. Ashley (my across the hall-mate) has been uber helpful before move-in day and since I've been here. Any advice on adjusting to my brand-new life would be mucho appreciated. So, this is all I can think to blog right now. Check out all my pictures of my new "home." Love you guys...

Olivia,
Sounds like you are having too much fun for this to be a school for S.C.'s brightest & most beautiful! Don't ever ask advise from an aunt who used to be a school counselor because thats what we love to do most of all. Making friends has never been a difficult area for you but since you are in a new setting some of this may apply. First of all, remember the way to be admired & liked by people is to really listen to them talk about their lives, ask questions showing that you are interested in them. Everybody loves to talk about themselves, but few are good listeners. This tip will be good forever because this isn't just true with young people, its true with everyone. Showing a genuine interest in them and it will be reciprocated (in time). I have a new lap top and am still learning, I lost my first post to you, just trust me it was brilliant. Get in there on the activities, its very freeing when you don't care how you look or if you trip over your feet, its fun and a great way to bond with new friends who will probably (many) end up life time friends. Love you mucho!Aunt Judi

Take some pictures of the girls so I'll know what they look like when you tell about your new friends. Take the camera down the hall & tell them this is for Aunt Judi
